Fleetwood Town Decision: Scott Brown Out as Manager After Tough Start to Season

Fleetwood Town Parts Ways with Manager Scott Brown

Former Celtic legend Scott Brown has been relieved of his duties as manager at Fleetwood Town after a challenging start to the season. Brown, who took over the helm 16 months ago, faced a winless streak that extended into the current campaign, with Fleetwood securing just one point from their initial six League One matches. Their most recent defeat, a 2-1 loss to Charlton Athletic, prompted the decision.

Assistant head coach Steven Whittaker has also departed from the Lancashire club, which currently resides near the bottom of the League One table. Fleetwood Town released a statement confirming Brown’s immediate departure, citing the need for a change in first-team management due to their disappointing run of results.

The statement expressed gratitude to Scott Brown and Steven Whittaker for their dedication and professionalism during their tenure at the club. Fleetwood has yet to announce an interim replacement for their next fixture, an EFL Trophy match against Tranmere Rovers, but they have some time to regroup before their next league game against Oxford United.

Scott Brown, a Celtic icon, took on the role of Fleetwood’s manager in May 2022, marking his first venture into management following a successful playing career. During his tenure, the team finished 13th in the league, missing out on playoff contention towards the end of the season.

Brown enjoyed a distinguished playing career, spending 14 years with Celtic and earning numerous domestic trophies, including four consecutive domestic trebles. He also claimed a League Cup with Hibernian and had a brief stint as a player-coach at Aberdeen before taking up the managerial role at Fleetwood Town. His departure from the club coincides with the highly anticipated Rangers-Celtic derby, which took place just hours after the announcement.
