In a dramatic incident on Sunday morning, a significant fire erupted in a two-story apartment building in Granby, Estrie. The City of Granby’s Fire Safety Department swiftly responded to the emergency call around 5:40 a.m. The blaze had engulfed a duplex on Saint-Jacques Street, triggering a fifth alarm that summoned approximately thirty firefighters to the scene.

Fortunately, prior to the firefighters’ arrival, all residents had been successfully evacuated. The evacuation process was remarkably swift, facilitated by the fact that two out of the four dwellings were unoccupied. Thankfully, no injuries were reported due to the incident.

Regrettably, the duplex suffered irreparable damage and is now a total loss. The intensity of the fire extended to an adjacent building as well. Although not entirely destroyed like the main structure, the neighboring building sustained significant damage.

As a preventive measure, an elderly residence located near the scene was evacuated, but fortunately, the flames did not reach this facility.
